Upon getting up this morning the first thing I did was look out the window...and my heart sank. The dreary, wet landscape did not look promising for Marisa and Nik's wedding day (not to mention anyone else tying the knot today). However, by some stroke of luck the clouds parted and the wet pavement dried up just in time to give this couple the day they deserve. In a weird six-degrees-of-separation type situation, Marisa was pointed in my direction by her mother who I met on a trip a couple of years ago. And in an almost oddly funny way it turned out I knew her fiance as being the son of a couple who had been friends of the family for years. So in this regard I was most happy to help them create their wedding cupcake tower which they knew they wanted from the get-go.
Marisa and Nik's wedding colours centered around black, lime green, and dark hot pink which I thought were fabulous. A much welcomed change from the typical silvers, creams, and whites. And instead of renting a standard cupcake stand we opted to build one so that we could customize the stand colours. Mind you, matching these colours was NOT the easiest task in the world, but after putting it all together I think it worked out quite well.
Despite the end result this project did not go without a few unexpected bumps in the road and it goes to show that it's better to be over prepared than under prepared. Most notably, the cupcake liners used here are black and not available in your average shop. So I had to do some online searching where I found liners supplied by a Canadian company which I thought would work out quite nicely.
I placed the order and waited...but also made a trip to a Toronto-based shop where I found some similar back-ups. Good thing because those wonderful liners which I ordered online didn't show up...and I'm still waiting...
Anyways, congratulations Marisa and Nik! I hope your day was filled with GOOD surprises!!
