A Fashion Statement

Jennifer is awesome! She's also this week's bride. A referral from a past client, this girl knew exactly what she wanted when she came to see me. In our initial consultation she pulled out a picture of a cake originally designed by Roxycakes and featured in Wedding Bells magazine last fall/winter. The photo inspired her to be different and it's definitely different, but my understanding is that Jennifer has a degree in fashion so I could see where she was coming from. AND this is SO my forte so I was pretty pumped to take this on!

We took the original idea and made a few changes to personalize this cake for Jennifer and her fiance Eric. The two suitcases were styled in Louis Vuitton print, however, the LV monogram was replaced with the bride and groom's initials instead. The second suitcase included a handle and hang tag with the bride and groom's name and wedding date, and we also added a date stamp to the top crate. Instead of a crate full of flowers Jennifer wanted the top filled with feathers, a boa, pearls and minimal flowers just to add some contrast.

The overall colour theme for the event was "peacock" so there was a lot of turquoise/teal and bronze used throughout.

The event itself was held at the Liberty Grand in Toronto and I have to say it was absolutely stunning! I wish I had taken some photos to show you the site. The couple used Manzanita tree centrepieces with hanging crystals which really made this place look like a million bucks. I'm almost afraid to ask, but chances are that's how much it costs to hold an event here!

This was also the first time I got to use my new airbrush. Oh. My. God. If I could be in love with an inanimate object, this would be it. I don't know how I survived this long in cake decorating without harnessing the power of the airbrush! Definitely my new FLAVOUR-ite thing!

Jennifer and Eric - all the best to you both!
