Fancy That Cupcake!

I like to experiment with new techniques and cake processes just for the heck of it and that's kinda how this wedding order came to be.

Brandie contacted me several months ago about putting together a simple cupcake display for her wedding. She actually sent me a sketch of what she was looking for which was fairly basic: a simple white cake on top of a white cupcake stand and white on white cupcakes. Fresh orchids were to be used as accents.

After meeting and discussing the various options available in the world of cupcakes, I put together two samples for Brandie to test based on the options she liked (these were posted on the blog last month). The end result was an elegant display of fondant covered cupcakes still in line with the original desire for simplicity. The plain cake which was to sit on top of the stand was also dressed up with fuschia ribbon and a brooch accent (a little bling never hurts!).

This is actually the first time I've covered cupcakes in fondant for an event and I have to say I've become a huge fan of how they look when they're on display. They give off a nice, clean look if executed properly. The only downside is that covering these types of cupcakes is a two-step process which really takes a significant amount of time if you attempt to fully cover the edges. It's even more of a downside when you're still decorating at 1 am!

For Brandie and Preet's event, we also constructed a custom cupcake stand using some basic cake boards, styrofoam rounds, fancy wrapping paper and ribbon. It's a nice touch when you're trying to coordinate a look.

Congratulations Brandie and Preet! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try something new!
